GREG MANN has been superintendent of the Norton Schools since the fall of 2001. He had also served as the Norton Junior High Principal and Norton Athletic Director for ten years. He has been a professional educator since 1975 and has been a custodian, teacher, coach, school counselor, and building principal.
Mr. Mann is a 1975 graduate of Kansas State University and earned his Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University. Advanced course work beyond the Master's Degree has also been completed.
Married since 1973, his wife Brenda is also an educator. They are the parents of four children (three of whom are NCHS graduates and the fourth is close!)
Mr. Mann's professional beliefs and guiding principles of administration are as follows
- There is more to a good education than just the 3R's.
- All students can learn.
- The VAST MAJORITY of teachers are professionals who have the best interests of their students at heart.
- Parents want the best for their children.
- Clear communication is the key to mutual understanding.
- Most students desire to have, and will work to achieve, high expectations if they are communicated clearly, often, and if they are attainable.
- A school district can have successful athletics, activity programs and strong academic programs at the same time.
- Good teachers are good coaches and good coaches are good teachers.
- People can agree to disagree without being disagreeable.
- Local problems are best solved locally.
- The best solutions are those arrived at closest to the problem.
- It is better to be occasionally cheated than perpetually suspicious.
- All of us together is smarter than one of us.
- What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right.
- Who gets the credit is unimportant, what gets done is.
